Amsterdam screening of the "Hunting the Rainbow"

Amsterdam screening of the "Hunting the Rainbow"

More than 50 people attended a screening of the recent documentary Hunting the Rainbow on January 24. The film portrays the lives of Russian queer people whose destinies have been reshaped by recent homophobic legislation, social isolation, and violence.

Following the screening, a Q&A and discussion session took place with the documentary’s director, Nikita Loyk; producer, Stas Volkman; and activist, Vlad Nachikov. Nikita Loyk noted that the primary audience for the documentary is Russian people across the world, and that even many viewers with negative attitudes toward LGBT+ people express the view that the treatment of LGBT+ individuals by Russian police and authorities is unacceptable.

The chairman of Het Blauwe Fonds, Dennis Boutkan, along with several representatives of various partner organizations, also attended the event. Dennis emphasized the importance of screening the documentary in different European countries and at various exhibitions so that decision-makers can better understand the situation of Russian LGBT+ people and refugees, both in Russia and across Europe.

After the discussion, a post-screening mixer took place, during which some participants played bingo and card games. The event was sponsored by De Trut Fonds.
